Hey! My name's Koba (meatspace name is David), and I'm an RPG nerd. Long story short my big appreciation for RPGs started, technically with Pokémon, but went ham after I played FFIV on SNES (which is now one of my least faves in that series, actually). I tend to prefer Strategy RPGs and Asian-style RPGs (JRPGs) in general, but if a game's good, it's good. Beyond RPGs I also like Adventure games, Action games (Fighting and Shmups), Puzzle games, Life Simulation games (V-pets ^q^ drool) and Strategy games in general.
I've been doing a lot of stream of consciousness blogposts about RPGs on the raocow's talkhaus forum, a forum dedicated to a Canadian LPer's videos. As the title says, my friend was like. "yo dude you should make a blog about thing" and. Now I'm doing it? In terms of stuff I do in my spare time, I like doing hobbyist gamedev (it doesn't really go anywhere though), bara art and playing video games, basically.
My favorite series are SaGa, Mana, Summon Night (non-Swordcraft included), Legend of Heroes (pre-Trails included), Star Ocean (don't tell anyone how I live ;;), Lunar (I also enjoy Grandia 1, haven't played Grandia 2 as of this post), Arc the Lad, and I have a softspot for what I've played of Suikoden, Valkyrie Profile, Ys, Tengai Makyou, Momotarou Densetsu, Ultima, Wizardry, Fallout, Megami Tensei, Tales and Phantasy Star. Dragon Quest and FF aren't bad either but those get enough attention.
I also enjoy playing untranslated games, though due to the difficulty of learning new languages, I tend to use OCR and translation tools, localizing it in my head. It's FAR from ideal, but it gets the job done. This includes untranslated Korean and Taiwanese RPGs which are something that fascinates me, though I've also considered playing untranslated WRPGs, like this one Turkish blobber for Amiga and DOS set in ancient Instanbul.
RPG Maker and freeware obscura (as well as OHRRPG, WolfRPG, SRPG Studio, and so on) is also a special interest of mine. I especially love seeing people make completely original mechanics for their games in limited engines, but even a messy game with an interesting script has its own appeal.
If my posts about weird RPGs interest you, I guess you can let me know about it but. I'm not sure were through, I don't really like being the center of attention at all. The only real social media I use beyond Discord is FurAffinity at this point...
Please enjoy.
